ZERO-HUNGER (UN SDG 2)

God gave us land, seeds and many other natural resources to survive.

Man became interested in farming and animal rearing.

Today as we know technology has improved the way we produce and consume.

However, the SDG Action Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production is part of the Sustainable Development Goals. It aims to promote sustainable lifestyles, by informing businesses and consumers, how to use natural resources and manage waste.

The key actions for SDG 12, relates to integrating sustainability into how businesses and report their progress relating to their environmental policies.

E2E London Solutions through Community Partnership, is willing to engage with individuals, faith and community leaders, businesses and policy makers – other stake holders.

Together, we night identify and discuss the different challenges, that has led to poor standards of living, unemployment and debts with food banks that are not sustainable.

It is very ambitious to have policies, which some communities have refused to engage in, due to poverty issues.

community issues

We need to consider parents, and carers that might need childcare support to attend public meetings. Internet access might be available in local libraries, but how many rooms will be available on the day? Are students inspired to participate in policy dialogues without missing deadlines for assignments? People with disabilities may have various needs that have not been assessed by the right experts. On the other hand. new business start-ups are working on partnership proposals and can add information , from dialogues to show they are connected locally.

A curious question is how serious are we taking agriculture and farming in the UK or globally?

Growing food on allotments is a good start. This will not guarantee our children going to bed without -Hunger. Ask parents and carers or grand parents, what happens to the cupboard and fridge during a Summer Holiday? In some homes, it’s not hunger that is the issue. Having too much food and resources with poor management leads to wastage. This habit is transferred into the food and hospitality sector.

As a community, let’s imagine how many sandwiches are thrown away daily? How many hot drinks ordered came with a different content ( 3 Black Coffees with milk). A milkshake with the wrong flavour (strawberry instead of vanilla or vanilla instead of chocolate). Yes, the company’s policy is to give the customer, the right order. What happens to this order?

research findings

We need to count the costs and have a (preventative) measure approach , ‘prevention is better than cure’ attitude. Research, mentions that in 2021, 10.7 million tonnes of food waste, accounts for 6.6 million tonnes or approximately 69% of the total food waste from a 2023 report,

In the year 1961, United Nations General Assembly established the World Food Programme (UNWFP), which has become the lead agency that responds to food emergencies, to combat hunger worldwide.

five years?

The SDG Action 2, for Zero-Hunger, aims to End hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. The UN Sustainable Development Goals platform mentions that over 600 million people worldwide are projected to face hunger in 2030.
